AI worries 68% of its daily American users, according to Gallup
Gallup has published the first results of its international survey on AI, in which 68% of the daily American users surveyed say they are worried about AI. In that same group, 45% trust it “completely or a lot” to provide accurate information.

In the United States, 68% of respondents who use AI every day say it worries them, according to the first survey results published by Gallup on September 22, 2026. This initial release covers 37 countries and territories, as part of a program conducted with Microsoft.
In that same group of daily American users, 45% trust AI “completely or a lot” to provide accurate information. Both percentages therefore have the same base. A cross-tabulation of individual responses has not been published, making it impossible to quantify how many users are both worried and highly trusting.
Microsoft commissioned the study, reports TechCrunch, which places the collection of responses between April and July 2026. The Gallup-Microsoft program ultimately aims to cover 140 countries, beyond the 37 countries and territories in this first set of results.
Curiosity and worry can coexist
In its AI survey methodology, Gallup explains that each emotion is addressed in a separate question, with a yes-or-no answer. The same person can therefore express both curiosity and worry about AI. The questionnaire allows respondents to report several feelings simultaneously.
More favorable expectations in China than in the United States
Among adults familiar with AI, 93% of respondents in China expect it to be mainly beneficial to people in their country, compared with 36% in the United States. These figures measure expectations about AI’s impact, without assessing benefits already realized.
In this same population of adults familiar with AI, positive emotions are more widespread than negative emotions in 34 of the 37 countries and territories studied. Gallup includes curiosity among positive emotions, a category broader than trust alone in the information provided.
Across all adults surveyed, the median of the national percentages of people who have never used AI is 57%. The median is the percentage in the middle of the national values ranked in ascending order, without population weighting. The 57% therefore does not represent a share of the world’s population.
