Meta introduces Muse Charm, a pocket device for its AI agent

Meta unveiled Muse Charm, a pocket device for accessing its personal agent Muse at Meta Connect on September 23, 2026. The company announced real-time voice conversations to make access to Muse more direct beyond smartphone apps.

Reuters describes a touchscreen of around 2 inches and built-in 5G connectivity. The mobile connection is intended to provide access to Muse without Wi-Fi. Charm cannot make phone calls, Reuters notes. Deliveries are targeted for the December 2026 holiday season, and the device has yet to go on sale.

Muse was announced by Meta on September 8, 2026. The agent was already accessible on smartphones and the web, with Charm set to add a dedicated voice channel. The way tasks are delegated to Muse has already been examined in our report on a test of calls to humans.

Muse acts within authorized services, from the cloud

Meta describes a virtual machine dedicated to Muse—in other words, a computer hosted remotely in the cloud. Users choose which services to connect and which permissions to grant the agent. An answer to a question provides information; a purchase or a message being sent triggers an action in another service. Charm is intended to serve as a voice entry point to this architecture.

The value of the voice channel therefore also depends on the actions entrusted to Muse. Asking for information and delegating a purchase use the same interface, but carry different consequences for the user.

In its security documentation, Meta presents Sentinel, which allows, blocks or requests approval based on permissions. The company announced controls for purchases and certain message-sending actions. It describes access permissions as adjustable and revocable, while some authorizations may persist.

Meta acknowledges that Muse can make mistakes. An error that results in a purchase could cost the user money; an incorrectly executed message-sending action could also affect its recipient. The way approvals and the revocation of access work on Charm will need to be tested in real-world use.

The full cost of Charm remains to be clarified

The hardware price has not been announced. Any connectivity charges and whether a subscription will be required to use Charm are still unknown.

Reuters stresses that the usefulness of an additional device alongside existing equipment remains to be demonstrated. Independent tests of tasks would help assess the promised ease of use and the reliability of delegated actions.

Charm’s battery life and availability in France have yet to be clarified. The French preorders announced at Connect are for the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses.
